Position Summary: The Group Home Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all residential group home programs across Heart Havens. This role manages regional and programmatic leadership staff, including Regional Program Managers, to ensure service quality, regulatory compliance, and organizational consistency. The Group Home Director develops and implements systems-wide procedures, facilitates interdepartmental collaboration, and proactively addresses changes in the service landscape. This position plays a key role in organizational planning, performance improvement, and aligning residential services with Heart Havens’ mission and long-term goals.  

Essential Functions: 

  • Supervise Regional Program Managers, providing leadership, performance oversight, and guidance to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across all residential group home programs. 
  • Ensure agency-wide compliance with DBHDS, DMAS, and other regulatory standards by monitoring updates, participating in audits, and recommending policy/procedure changes as needed. 
  • Oversee incident management processes, including review and approval of General Event Reports, serious incident reporting in CHRIS, and follow-up actions to ensure thorough resolution. 
  • Serves as a Serious Incident Reporter in DBHDS’s CHRIS system and maintains trainings on serious incident reporting guidelines set by the Department. 
  • Act as secondary CHRIS reporter for human rights complaints and conduct investigations as assigned. 
  • Provide oversight and guidance in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individual Support Plans (ISP), Part V documentation, protocols, and service authorizations. 
  • Provides supervision to the Service Facilitator with Individual Support Plan (ISP) development and reviews Residential Part V’s, protocols, and quarterly reports. 
  • Completes annual service authorization requests according to regulatory requirements, and monitors WaMS communications to promptly address issues identified by support coordination or DBHDS staff.  
  • Collaborate with HR on complex personnel matters, including performance concerns, hiring recommendations, and progressive discipline, ensuring alignment with organizational policies. 
  • Supports the organization by executing assigned Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), monitoring the implementation of approved CAPs, and supervising activities delegated to team members. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation for incidents, corrective action plans (CAPs), and compliance reviews; ensure team members meet all regulatory documentation standards. 
  • Review and approve residential staffing plans, ensuring adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel to meet individual needs. 
  • Oversee intake and discharge processes, delegating responsibilities and ensuring thorough communication and documentation. 
  • Lead or participate in quality improvement initiatives, risk mitigation efforts, root cause analyses, and strategic planning alongside compliance and leadership teams. 
  • Support finance and billing processes by resolving discrepancies and ensuring accurate tracking of service attendance. 
  • Serve as a systems lead and trainer for client record systems (e.g., OneDrive, Therap, QuickMAR), promoting compliance and data integrity across programs. 
  • Conduct or delegate annual safety inspections, ensure timely resolution of issues, and maintain safety compliance documentation. 
  • Act as an organizational representative for stakeholders including support coordinators, family members, and legal decision-makers. 
  • Provide emergency response support, assist in addressing critical staffing gaps, and step in as needed to stabilize residential operations. 
  • Review and approve timesheets, leave requests, and expense reports per company policy. 
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of program leadership staff. 
  • Ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines across residential programs. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Requirements:

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in a relevant field. 
  • Must meet the standards for a Qualified Developmental Disability Professional (QDDP). 

 Qualifications and Expectations:?  

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license 
  • Adheres to the company’s hybrid work policy and visits program sites at least 8 hours per week.

  • Ability to lead and cultivate a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work culture aligned with Heart Havens’ mission and core values. 
  • Reliable in meeting deadlines and consistently producing high-quality deliverables. 
  • Skilled in organizing and facilitating meetings that drive action and foster collaboration. 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; comfortable using technology for communication, data analysis, and reporting. 
  • Must be able to complete and maintain training regarding risk management, conducting investigations, root cause analysis, and the use of data to identify trends and potential risk patterns. 
  • Must maintain required certifications: Therapeutic Options, Medication Administration, and First Aid/CPR/AED.  
  • Ability to provide direct support, which: 
  • May require behavior management interventions 
  • May require supporting individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) 
  • May require driving up to 8 hours   
  • May require frequent bending, stooping, squatting, reaching and walking 
  • May require standing up for up to 8 hours  
  • May require lifting at times, up to 25 pounds
